The Art of STEM is a unique track out experience for elementary aged children that is developed and run by educators. It fosters socialization and creative thinking by providing stimulating activities that introduce rudimentary concepts of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) through visual and performing arts activities.
Each week of camp is based on a theme that is tied to a children's book. The book is turned into a short skit (reader's theater style) and is practiced throughout the week. The children have a wonderful time practicing, creating their character and making simple costumes. They do all of this without ever being aware that they are practicing their reading fluency and building their confidence.
The structured art projects, building challenges and movement activities are also loosely tied to the week's theme and storybook. We believe it is important to put an emphasis on free play, where a child develops social skills and is allowed to experiment with their creative side.
